Job Overview
We are looking for a skilled and reliable Powder Coating Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience applying powder coating using a manual spray booth to finish metal parts or components. The technician will be responsible for preparing surfaces, applying powder coating, curing parts, and ensuring high-quality results in line with production schedules and safety standards.
Main Responsibilities:
- Powder Coating Application: Apply powder coating to metal parts and components using a manual powder spray booth. Ensure even coverage, correct coating thickness, and consistency for each part.
- Surface Preparation: Prepare surfaces of parts by cleaning, sanding, or applying appropriate treatments to ensure proper adhesion of the powder coating.
- Quality Control: Inspect parts before and after coating for defects, such as uneven coverage, colour consistency, or contamination. Conduct final quality checks to ensure parts meet required specifications.
- Curing & Post-Coating Processes: Load coated parts into curing ovens and monitor the curing process to ensure proper baking temperatures and times are followed. Handle parts post-curing for any necessary touch-ups or finishing.
- Powder Mix and Maintenance: Monitor the powder coating material for consistency and quality. Regularly clean and maintain the spray equipment, ensuring it is functioning efficiently and preventing powder clogs or defects.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, including wearing the proper personal protective equipment (PPE), maintaining a clean work area, and ensuring compliance with environmental and health regulations.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance on the powder spray booth and curing oven, ensuring optimal operation and minimising downtime. Report any equipment issues or malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Documentation: Record production quantities, batch numbers, material usage, and any issues encountered during the powder coating process.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other team members, supervisors, and quality control staff to meet production deadlines and quality standards.
- Continuous Improvement: Suggest process improvements to enhance coating efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall product quality.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven experience in powder coating, preferably with manual spray booth equipment.
- Familiarity with powder coating materials, curing processes, and techniques.
- Knowledge of surface preparation methods, including phosphate, cleaning, and priming.
- Ability to inspect finished products for quality and make adjustments as needed to meet specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and focus on producing high-quality results.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Basic mechanical aptitude for equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Ability to lift and handle parts and materials safely (up to [weight]).
- Flexibility to work in different shifts, as required by the production schedule.
