TES have recently completed a project to upgrade controls for a major pharmaceuticals new pilot plant facility in Dudley, North East England. Sterling Pharma Solutions have made the investment to enhance its scale-up and small to midscale commercial API manufacturing capabilities. The expansion will increase the pilot plant’s capacity by 33% and enhance the site’s production capabilities and flexibility for small to mid-scale batch production.
The new MCC’s manufactured by TES were installed in two phases in order to minimise disruption to the plant operations. Phase 1 involved an extension to an existing MCC. Careful planning and execution was critical due to the plant remaining operational throughout the works, meaning only limited shutdowns were available. On Phase 3 of the works TES installed a new Form 4 MCC, built to MCC specifications. The new MCC consisted of the following;
- Form 4 Type 2
- Bespoke design to meet client specification
- Colour matching to clients existing MCC colour
- Front & Rear Access
- Top & Bottom Cable Entry
- Fully welded mild Steel construction
- Ingress Protection up to IP54
Commenting on the project Stephen Doyle, TES Head of Technical Solutions said “the project management capabilities of the TES team was key for the successful completion of this project as we had to ensure that the facility remained operational other than during pre-arranged shutdown periods. We were able to successfully extend the existing MCC and install the new MCC as our team planned by efficiently utilising our off-site design, manufacture and planning time. ”
