The data centre industry has seen an increasing rise in supply chain demands which have been caused by several factors including the growing global demand for data, the advancement of AI technology and continued shortages in components driven from the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Supply chain management stands as the cornerstone of TES’s efficient operations and sustainable business growth. At TES, effectively managing the supply chain isn’t just about moving products from point A to point B; it’s about optimising every step in the journey. A well-structured supply chain enhances responsiveness, reduces costs, minimizes risks, and improves overall customer satisfaction.
So how does TES manage the increasing supply chain demands?
Enhanced Capacity
TES recently opened a new 300,000sqft manufacturing facility in order to fulfil growing client requirements without delaying their project programmes. This additional capacity has allowed TES to scale up projects, improve lead times, and strategically plan future projects accordingly. Stores capacity has also been increased, providing additional storage space for common components; acting as a buffer against supplier issues or delivery delays.
Agile and Flexible Supply Chains
TES have a diverse, agnostic supply chain ensuring that our clients have multiple options available to them to suit their preference or lead time constraints. TES work closely with suppliers to ensure no disruption to project programmes are experienced.
Inventory Optimisation
TES employ, and continuously monitor, inventory techniques to help optimise inventory levels, reduce carrying costs, and meeting customer demands efficiently. The TES Supply Chain Management team ensure that our factories have a steady and timely supply of components.
Furthermore, TES apply lean manufacturing principles to eliminate waste, reduce unnecessary steps, and optimise the production flow.
Sustainability and Resilience
TES strives to build a sustainable and resilient supply chain in line with our pledge to become Carbon Zero by 2030. This includes practices such as, responsible sourcing, reducing environmental impact, and diversifying suppliers to mitigate risks of supply chain disruption.
Advanced Technology Implementation
TES utilise SAGE stock control into supply chain operations for our warehouse management teams. This can retrieve full details of an item quickly and easily including supplier details, stock levels, stock location and stock history. The system is also integrated with our Accounts and Purchasing package to ensure seamless accountability throughout the supply chain.
Talent Development and Training
TES Invest in talent development and training programs to ensures that our workforce is equipped with the necessary skills to manage complex supply chain demands efficiently.
Wayne McLaughlin, Warehouse Manager within our Data Centre Manufacturing facility at Ballykelly states: “TES have provided me and my team with training that enables us to forecast stock demand accurately for Data centre projects, which has allowed us to minimise stockouts, reduce excess inventory, and improve cost-effectiveness. When I started with TES, I was impressed by their strong and long-term relationships with suppliers. This has helped me to further excel in our vendor relationships and ensure the timely delivery of orders.”
